Fair Trade Coffee & Tea

On May 4th during Sunday school hour, we saw a 20 minute video called “From Crop to Cup: The Lutheran World Relief Coffee Project” in the lounge. The video explained a little more about where your money goes when you buy fair trade products. For more information contact Brook Nauta at 937-367-1473.

Started in 1996, the LWR Coffee Project is a collaboration between Equal Exchange and Lutheran World Relief to involve Lutheran communities and individuals in supporting small farmers around the world.

For each pound of fairly traded coffee, tea, and foods Lutherans purchase through the LWR Coffee Project, 20 cents per pound goes to LWR’s Small Farmer Fund, supporting three cooperatives in Kenya through farmer training and agricultural development. Projects include planting new trees and improving processing equipment and storage facilities, which creates a stronger union between coffee growers.

There are a few of the Equal Exchange products on display in the hallway from the narthex to the Sunday School annex.
