St. John’s is proud of our heritage of discipleship and service. When we speak of mission we refer to the intersection of our gifts and the needs of our community and world.
This year our work focused generous support for Miamisburg Helping Hands which provides food for people experiencing food scarcity or insecurity in Miamisburg, West Carrollton, and Moraine. Our joint help along with our partner churches at St. Jacob Lutheran, Zion Lutheran, Trinity Church, and St. Henry Parrish, will provide 1,760 pounds of food.
On third Sundays our “Sonrise Servers” serve breakfast to the those who are homeless and living in the downtown Dayton area. Community members gather in the fellowship space at First Lutheran Church, Dayton where a different church prepares a hot breakfast every Sunday morning.
Plus every year we adopt local families at Christmas time, providing gifts and encouragement through the help of the Miamisburg School District. We also hold fundraisers throughout the year that benefit the YWCA, Jeremiah’s Letter, and local food banks. There’s always something to roll up your sleeve on, quilts to tie and baby layettes to sew and send to to third world nations.
Everything we do at St. John’s reflects our understanding that we are blessed to be a blessing, joining Jesus in helping God love the world.
